Rita Taverni, originally from New York, relocated to Florida when she was young. She was exposed to the art and design world by her mother, who works as an interior designer. Hugo Gnam, the surrealist painter whose works were displayed throughout her childhood home, was one of her early influences. She studied at the Florida School of the Arts and continued her education at the University of Central Florida. After college, she began her professional career as a decorative painter before transitioning to art restoration, museum framing and product development.
While Taverni is a contemporary artist, she is heavily influenced by traditional subject matter and techniques. Her strong background in traditional art and framing techniques has informed her work in order to blend old and new aesthetics together to create imagery that deeply resonates with her wide audience.
Like many Floridians, she finds solace and inspiration in the Florida wilderness. Her upcoming body of work is intended to bring awareness to the preservation of Florida’s delicate ecosystem so that it can continue to be treasured by generations to come.
